Pianos are one of the trickiest household items to move. Whether you have a spinet, an upright, or a baby grand, a little prep on your end goes a long way toward a smooth move with careful handling.
1. Measure every doorway, hallway, and stair landing. Note the narrowest point on the route in and out. Share these measurements when you book — it helps us send the right crew and equipment.
2. Clear a 4-foot path. Move rugs, plants, side tables, and anything fragile out of the route. Tight corners are where accidents happen.
3. Lock the keyboard lid (if you have a key). If not, leave it closed — we'll pad it. Never tape directly to a polished finish; tape lifts the lacquer.
4. Don't try to move it yourself first. Pianos can shift their internal weight unpredictably. Even sliding one across a room can crack a leg or scratch a hardwood floor.
5. Ask about climate. If your piano is going from a climate-controlled home to a garage or unconditioned space, plan to have it tuned 2–4 weeks after the move so it can settle.
